Hurricane Irma

Fionnuala and I feel we have a connection with Florida. We had a wonderful two week holiday there some years ago and used to be connected to a church in Jacksonville. We have been watching in horror as Hurricane Irma has wreaked its destructive path across the Caribbean towards South Florida.


Today we offer up our prayers for the islands which have been hit already and for the people of Florida and the Southern states. I was at a loss for words this morning as I started this post so turned to my Bible and The Psalms. I opened them at the following Scripture.

Psalm 46:1-3 – God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling.’

Please pray today and throughout the weekend for the victims of Hurricane Irma.

  5. As a long time resident and seasoned in the hurricane season I have never seen anything like this and so appreciate and covet your prayers. We have done all we can and now we place our hearts, mind and soul in Christ. Bless you for your prayers.

  6. thank you for your prayers. I live in the projected pathway of NE Fl and am also encouraged today by the Psalms particularly Ps 98. My hope has been to travel to your area before I began following you, since God has not opened that window but has this one. I pray blessings on you and yours for the day and beyond. Thank you for your encouraging messages, especially those that show God’s grace and mercy in our weaknesses.

  7. Praying. My best friend lives down there and I am always worried about her and others safety during hurricane season. Irma is strong and powerful. Largest hurricane on the east coast history. May God watch over them all!

  9. Thank you guys for the prayers! I live in Volusia County, so we’re right in the middle of the state. Even with all of the preparations my family and I have gone through, it still doesn’t feel like enough. We are running on 24/7 prayer-power right now.

  11. Yes, I’ve been praying for Irma to diminish. If it’s God’s will, it’s possible Irma can be completely stopped. If we hadn’t moved we would be preparing for our first hurricane. We have friends down in Florida. They’re higher up but because no one knows which direction the storm will take evacuations haven’t happened just yet.

      1. I’m not fully identified with any specific religion. I do believe though that the core of every religion is love and I like to involve their beautiful teachings in my spiritual practice
