Hotdogs For Breakfast

We have an important appointment to attend this morning. Which means an early start for all. Thankfully Fionnuala is as super organised as ever. As I write this she is making hot dogs for breakfast. What a woman!

I am a born worrier and when it comes to appointments I make no exceptions. What if it doesn’t go to plan? What if I say the wrong thing? What if the other person doesn’t like me? The list of ‘what if’ scenarios is endless and very few of them have a happy ending.

Worry is the most pointless emotion. Yet so many of us fall back upon it as our default position whenever an important appointment is looming on the horizon. I don’t know about you but 9 times out of ten that appointment is never as bad as we imagine it is going to be. In fact it’s usually a whole lot better.

Jesus tells us not to worry and yet I still do, as opposed to handing it all over to him in prayer. This is something I know I need to work on; along with doubt and negativity. Becoming a Christian doesn’t make you perfect overnight. It’s not as if a magic wand is waved and all your problems disappear in a puff of smoke. In fact, if anything, they increase.

But following and studying Jesus will make you a better person, little by little. Which in turn will make the world a better place if you apply yourself to leading a life adhering to the values he taught. It is rocky, less travelled road. But it does lead to your ultimate appointment. The one with the pearly gates and the fluffy clouds.

If you have decided to follow Jesus and lived your life the best you could then you have nothing to fear or worry about at this appointment. For He will welcome you with open arms. You will be home and your worries will all be behind you.

I wonder if they serve hotdogs for breakfast in Heaven?

Revelation 21:4 – ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’

Are you a worrier?

What appointments do you have today?

What’s your favourite breakfast?

We are Stephen and Fionnuala and this is our story. We live in Northern Ireland, have been married for 17 years and have three kids - Adam, Hannah and Rebecca. We hope that our story will inspire and encourage others. We have walked a rocky road yet here we are today, together and stronger than ever. We are far from perfect and our faith has been battered and bruised. But an untested faith is a pointless faith. Just as a fractured faith is better than none at all. We hope you enjoy the blog.

  1. Wow, your wife is such a keeper! Hot dogs for breakfast? That’s an awesome idea. And they look amazing. I have a little coffee with my cream and sugar for breakfast every morning. I don’t have any appointments coming up, although I do need to prepare a new lesson on robots for homeschooling this week (I let her pick what she wanted to learn in science…so naturally…robots) I’ll be praying your appointment goes well, brother! God bless you, and yours!

  2. Thank you for this post. I really needed to hear it this morning. I get impatient too and I like to try to put the cart well before the horse, especially in regard to my own spiritual maturity. Thankfully, the Lord gives me reminders that I have to go through His process to get where He wants me to be, not my own process. I learn something new in this aspect on a weekly basis. 🙂

  3. Yes I am most definitely a worrier. This week I have a 90pt assignment due, a paper and 2 chapter quizzes all for the same class and then assignments for the other class. The irony of my worrying is also that I’m a major procrastinator! :/ My favorite breakfast is breakfast burritos especially when my Grandma is making them so we can get up into the mountains for a trail ride or to camp early in the day!

  4. hot dogs for breakfast!!! Somebody’s gonna have a great day. If calories had no consequences cheese danish and coffee is my favorite breakfast. Hot dogs with jalapenos would be my favorite lunch and chocolate cake and churros my favorite dinner. One of my favorite perks from running is that I get to eat more cake…and donuts…and hot dogs.. you get the point.

  5. Lovely post. Thank you for sharing…and I have been a worrier, and looking back see how it really did nothing for me, and got me in a lot of trouble. I’ve had a lot of peace too…even in really hard times. It’s one of those things where you have to take each day, cling to the Word, and run to Jesus arms open wide. No other way for me…praise, worship …surrender. God Bless (oh, and if there are hot dogs in heaven I’m thankful there will be no ‘heartburn.’) lol 🙂

  6. I’ve never seen hot dogs like that! I’m used to hot dogs, and ketchup. This madness of hot dogs, bacon, and eggs you show LOOKS AMAZING! If Heaven has food, seriously, I’m signing up for this!

Worry is like the annoying neighbor who knows everything about you and just pressing all the wrong buttons. “Hey, have you thought about?” “You really should be cautious cause blah blah is happening.”

SHHH neighbor of worry! My God has it under control. (Speaking to myself, I needed this post 🙂 )

  7. Good luck with your appointment! I am a big worrier even though I try so hard not to be. Sometimes its just hard not to especially when it comes to doctors appointments. What’s my favorite breakfast? I would have to say sausage gravy and biscuits.
