A taste of the 12th of July celebrations which are being held in our village this year. Feel free to ask questions. It’s all about history and culture and stuff….
What do you know about the 12th July parades in Northern Ireland?
Is this what you expected?

We are Stephen and Fionnuala and this is our story. We live in Northern Ireland, have been married for 17 years and have three kids - Adam, Hannah and Rebecca.
We hope that our story will inspire and encourage others. We have walked a rocky road yet here we are today, together and stronger than ever. We are far from perfect and our faith has been battered and bruised.
But an untested faith is a pointless faith. Just as a fractured faith is better than none at all.
We hope you enjoy the blog.

What do YOU think of the 12 July parades? Is it something you still see a need for in today’s world?

I know nothing about the 12th of July parades or observance. Help me understand the significance.

Is it in part aimed to rub the Catholics’/Nationalists’/Republicans’ noses in it? All that bashing of lambeg drums, playing flutes and squeezing accordions?

Yes of course there is that. Which is what leads to a lot of tension between the two communities at this time of year.

Mind, I do love the turn to The Sash and similar tunes. 🙂

Sorry, typo. I meant “tune”, not “typo.”
Does anyone remember Robbie Coltrane’s character, Mason Boyne? 🙂

Golly! Right, well I think you’ll know instinctively that I am completely clueless about these parades … can you explain? K

We don’t go to them normally but it was held in our village this year and literally went past our front door so we had no choice.

You should parade the chickens some day. I’m sure they would enjoy it 🐔🧐

Absolutely! Before they got run over because they were to dumb to move…😨🐔

Well then your job is to supervise them. Possibly walk in front of them with a flag or a whistle to warn approaching traffic 👍🏻

It’s certainly got a ring to it. Maybe something for your next local rodeo?

Rodeos are so fun 😀
My chickens and I could be the entertainment, instead of the traditional clown. The crowd would love it! 😂

I’d pay top dollar to watch that 😌

I recently bought my mate from East Belfast a wee rubber ball. Every time it bounces on the ground, it goes, “Boyne! Boyne! Boyne!”

I read a little but it’s very confusing. Can’t we all just get along? Wishful thinking coming from the American with an idiot for a president.

It’s kind of like the Allies (at the time) insisting on marching down Main St Berlin every year… and wondering why the Germans don’t like it very much.

Thanks for posting. I’ve always wanted to go to Ireland but I wasn’t sure what part. And I never really understood the issues or differences with Ireland and Northern Ireland. So I researched it a bit, but I didn’t really picture it like this.

Definitely not. Every place has its issues. Ireland is still my dream trip.

When I say Ireland I mean it to say both Ireland and Northern Ireland. Not being from there I guess in my mind I see them as one not two.
