The Boss took us all out for breakfast this morning. He does this as a thank you to the team for all the hard work they put in during the year. It’s a lovely gesture, even though I feel like a stuffed pig at the minute. Why? Well, I’m glad you asked. For wouldn’t you feel the same if you had just consumed this.
For those of you not educated in the finer delicacies of Irish cuisine, it’s called an ‘Ulster Fry.’ Sausage, bacon, fried egg, tomato, black pudding, potato bread and soda. With a side order of toast and all washed down with a pot of tea. I can barely stand, let alone type.
Which leads me onto today’s question. What is your favourite breakfast? What fuels you up for the day ahead? Is it a belly buster like I’ve just consumed? Or do you prefer a healthier option? Porridge? Yoghurt? Grapefruit? Or what about last nights takeaway heated up in the microwave?
What is your favourite breakfast?
Honestly, I’m not a big breakfast person. I know they say it’s the most important meal of the day but I’m just not a big fan. However, when I DO eat breakfast I love pancakes. Or waffles. 🙂

Not a lot of people enjoy breakfast. I’m a huge fan of pancakes, plain, butter and loads of syrup! 😋

Some people add toasted pancakes and waffles to the Ulster fry. And baked beans!

Cheese, mushroom, and spinach omelette which makes me feel like I am eating healthy. Then I add a biscuit pr bagel, bacon, and grits which of course turns my healthy choice into a 500 pig’s delight. Oh, but its soooo good.

I’m American and didn’t discover the joys of tomato for breakfast until visiting Scotland a few years ago. *YUM* I don’t know that I have a favorite. I change it up a lot. Just no eggs. 🙂

Tomatoes for breakfast? I’m American and I’ve never had it. How do you prepare them for breakfast? 🤔
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’m not really sure how they do it, but we usually cut them in half, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and bake for a few minutes while everything else cooks. Sometimes I just warm them over in a skillet while I cook the sausages. They’re surprising to the American palate, but delicious!

Personal fav is two eggs, over easy, chicken fried steak, hash browns, and toast. I cut up the steak, eggs, and hash browns, mix together well, and then toss a bit of A! steak sauce on it. And oh, I like the gravy meant for the chicken friend stead on the side, so I can add a couple of tablespoons to the mess, mix well, and enjoy.
Then there’s Huevo Rancheros, but you have to be careful where you get them. Most places don’t know how to make them well. The best place I’ve ever eaten them is a little dump that has aspirations to be a dive called 4Gs on Federal Blvd here in Denver. Those guys can turn out Huevo Rancheros that are so good, they’re absolutely sinful.

I haven’t been eating much for breakfast lately, except maybe a Mandarin orange and a cup of coffee. However, if we are out for breakfast, I do quite enjoy a country-fried steak with scrambled eggs, shredded hashbrowns, and sourdough toast with jam.

Potato bread is bread made with potato flour as opposed to regular flour. Black pudding is pork, diet & dried pigs blood. It tastes better than it sounds.

That looks delicious! I love Ireland! Eggs used to be my favorite breakfast food, especially scrambled eggs, but I can’t eat eggs anymore since Celiac disease. I can still eat bacon though! I love having bacon with the gluten free waffles my wife makes. So good! God bless!

I never heard of eggs being a problem for someone with Celiac disease. Would you mind educating me?

Hi Karla, sure, thanks. I’m not sure why I can’t have eggs, but it might have something to do with the damaged villi in my small intestine. I can’t have dairy or soy anymore because it is the tips of the villi that process lactose. Once the villi are damaged, they don’t grow back. Celiac is an auto-immune disorder, so for some reason it sees eggs as an invader too. Thanks for caring. God bless you!

Thanks for the reply. I am both glad to learn it and very sad to hear as well. The more I learn about Celiac, the more I realize it is a terrible disease.

I don’t normally do breakfasts. If someone takes me out for breakfast (which hasn’t happened for a long time now) I would probably order a Full English Breakfast which here usually involves eggs, bacon, toast, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes, and some places also provide black pudding. The advantage of this is that I’m not usually hungry again until dinner time. Sometimes I like pancakes, but I can’t usually handle anything too sweet at the beginning of the day.

Well it depends… for every day I love a couple of poached eggs and a banana, but if it is the weekend, or a holiday… well then we make “eggs with stuff.” It usually has mushrooms, red peppers, and bacon, and then whatever else we can find in the refrigerator crisper drawers… Fry up the veggies. Push them to the side of the skillet. Scramble the eggs until just set. Then mix them all together, sprinkle with cheddar cheese and put a lid on it until the cheese is all melty. Serve with mimosas and white rice on the side.
Fried rice for breakfast is pretty outstanding too.

Breakfast for me depends on who is preparing it. If I’m at home, I have a bowl of cereal with soy milk. On a rainy weekend I’ll make myself oatmeal cooked in milk (sometimes with raisins and cocoa powder, sometimes with brown sugar).
When I eat breakfast out, I generally have an omelette, but there is a Brazilian place nearby that does a great feijoada (though it is on their brunch/lunch, not breakfast/brunch menu). I also like congee for breakfast, but almost never have it, as there is nowhere in town that serves it.
