Will Christmas Ever End?

Took this photo today while walking through Castle Court Shopping Centre in Belfast city centre. Our political parties get fined if they don’t take down election posters within two weeks of the event. Should the same apply for Christmas decorations that stay up beyond the traditional date of 6th January? And if so, what? Financial penalties? Public floggings? Being force fed Brussels sprouts and reruns of ‘Elf’ for the rest of the year? Answers on a Christmas card please 😀

  2. Since January 7th is Christmas for Orthodox Christians, taking them down the 6th would be unfair to them.

    There are people around here who never take down their Christmas decorations. Businesses tend to take them down a lot faster as some will have them gone before New Year’s Day.

  3. As much as I love Christmas, I take everything down after the 6th. Maybe they’re waiting for the weekend? Let us know if it’s still there after the weekend lol.

  5. Your log made me smile. Christmas lights make me smile too. I don’t keep my decorations up much past New Year’s Day if that long.But I enjoy them as long as anybody wants to keep them going. Of course, I’m one that believes Christmas doesn’t ever end. Thanks for the smile and Happy 2020 to you and yours!

  8. We have light and decorations around here until February (possibly due to the Winter Carnival, which runs into February, but I’m not convinced it’s necessary). However, there’s a garage/petrol station down in Sion which has a Father Christmas on it’s roof all year round! I’m not sure if it’s a joke or they are simply too lazy to take it down and put it up again. But it does kind of miss the point of making Christmas special.

  9. Hmmm… living in the dark northernmost corner of Montana – January is the longest, coldest, greyest month of the year. I leave my white Christmas lights up and on outside all month long. I leave my Christmas tree up and lit inside all month long – it helps keep the blues away and reminds me of the light of Christ when I haven’t seen the sun in weeks.

  17. I happen to like Brussel sprouts, and I watch Elf all year.
    I don’t always mind lights on houses if they are the white lights, because I know they make some people very happy, and they don’t look all that tacky. Plus, it’s your house and I don’t live next to you. Also, one year our outdoor roof lights were up until…April?… because no one wanted to climb up on the ladder to get to them. 😂 However, all inflatables should be taken down, and excess Christmas clutter removed so that it doesn’t blow into your neighbor’s yard. By now stores have their 4th of July decorations up here in the States (they also work for Memorial Day), along with Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Easter. They don’t have room for Xmas decorations anymore.

    1. All that to say if you’re paying the mortgage, you do you. And I’ll keep happily eating my roasted Brussel sprouts. 😂😉

      However, inflatables will always be a different story.

I took down my holiday decorations on Sunday after the Buffalo Bills lost, because that’s what you do here in Buffalo if you’re a Bills fan … you leave your decorations up until the Bills are out of the playoffs. For the years that they never made it into the playoffs, I would take down most of the decorations but leave up the lights until February 2, Candlemas … it’s bad luck to leave up ANY holiday decoration after February 2.

    Some of the houses around here still have their outdoor decorations up but it’s been wicked windy … I suppose people are waiting for a calm day to get up on ladders to take down their decorations. I miss the color & the brightness of the holiday lights but oh well … life goes on.
