Are You A Book Addict?

Are you a book addict as well?

Reading is a privilege. We should never take it for granted.

What are you reading today?

We are Stephen and Fionnuala and this is our story. We live in Northern Ireland, have been married for 17 years and have three kids - Adam, Hannah and Rebecca. We hope that our story will inspire and encourage others. We have walked a rocky road yet here we are today, together and stronger than ever. We are far from perfect and our faith has been battered and bruised. But an untested faith is a pointless faith. Just as a fractured faith is better than none at all. We hope you enjoy the blog.

  1. Hi! When I was a young girl I read ‘Farewell to Arms’ and hated it. I found the prose…stocky and manly… But recently I read ‘The Old Man and the Sea’ and couldn’t put it down. Then I read Farewell again and loved it. I suppose I had to mature to enjoy Hemingway. Now I’m reading ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’…

  2. I love reading. I usually have several books on the go at once. Just finished one novel today and am now back to reading Becoming by Michelle Obama which I had put down for a few days.

      1. It is! Hi there! Iโ€™m glad to find you! I love Stasiโ€™s simplistic, raw, and intimate display of her own struggles. She wrote, โ€œCaptivatingโ€,..it was transformational for me.

  3. I just finished reading Scars Like Wings by Erin Stewart. Great read about a girl who survived a fire, but has burns on 60% of her body.

      1. Sorry I wasn’t notified of your comment. It is about a family who owns a Inn on Nantucket. It was a great series. I will be posting about them by tomorrow.

  6. I am totally a book addict ๐Ÿ™‚ I just finished Refugee by Alan Gratz today – it’s an upper middle grade book about three young teenagers in three different refugee waves from the last century, but while it isn’t difficult to read it’s still really well written and handles difficult topics in a very honest and authentically human way.

  8. Totally a book addict! Reading “All the Light We Cannot See.” Anthony Doerr won the Pulitzer Prize for this book. Finding it hard to put down. This is the first book of his I have read but I will definitely check out more of this writer.

  9. I can definitely relate to all of those truths, especially spending money on books (before I finish my other books).

I just finished a book by Pastor Steven Furtick called โ€œSun Stand Still,โ€ definitely recommend for people who have big dreams. Iโ€™m currently listening to the audiobook, โ€œUnexpected,โ€ by Christine Caine, where she talks about having an expectation in the unexpected. And last night I started the physical book, โ€œLet Love Win,โ€ by Common โค๏ธ

  10. Iโ€™m currently indulging my morbid fascination with Very Bad People and reading yet another true crime book. Been burning through a lot of those lately and currently re-reading Love Always, Mum by Mae West. Right before it I read She Must Have Known (also about Rosemary West) by canโ€™t remember the authorโ€™s name right now.

      1. I am really embarrassed to say itโ€™s still on the shelf of books still to start, but in my defence I buy them like a demon and despite reading as much as I do, I always have 20+ unread books on that top shelf. Iโ€™ll get to it soon…!! Especially since thereโ€™s a follow up… ๐Ÿ‘

  11. Hi, my name is Jenni and I am an addict – a book addict! I love reading! It was part of the reason that I decided to become an editor and proofreader. It’s a dream job for me.

  12. Thanks, FF, for asking the question. I am a total book addict and have been every since I was very small. You’re right to say that reading is a privilege and that we should never take it for granted – reading that also made me wonder how I would cope if – touch wood, God forbid – I lost my sight, and I can only think that there would be an explosion in sales of audiobooks round these parts! Your post also inspired me to write a blogpost of my own about what reading means to me at a deeper level (if anyone’s interested it’s on my blog as ‘The Book Bonder’). Also loving the reading tips, as I find the likes of Goodreads don’t really do it for me, and I will definitely look up the Anthony Doerr book as I have a penchant for WW2 books. Would recommend The Guardian newspaper’s review section here in the UK (available online, of course) for excellent reviews of a wide range of books every week. Happy reading to you all!
