The enemy within, the one you can’t run away from, that’s where you will fall, that’s where you will fail. Sticks and stones will break your bones but words will suck your soul dry and leave you for dead. Words are the death of a thousand cuts, the traitorous voice that never stops. Doubting, belittling, mocking. Block it out, by any means necessary. For if it prevails, then all is lost for you and I. All is lost forever.

We are Stephen and Fionnuala and this is our story. We live in Northern Ireland, have been married for 17 years and have three kids - Adam, Hannah and Rebecca. We hope that our story will inspire and encourage others. We have walked a rocky road yet here we are today, together and stronger than ever. We are far from perfect and our faith has been battered and bruised. But an untested faith is a pointless faith. Just as a fractured faith is better than none at all. We hope you enjoy the blog. Awesome. Well said. The most untalked and unrevealed self-truth. We must talk to ourselves quite often to be clear in what we want and where to go.

Do you mean self-doubt here only, or something more? I struggle a lot with judging my myself, and knowing what a spiral that can be. Thank you for your words.

You’re welcome. Yes, it’s largely self doubt I’m referring to.

So true. I have a dear friend who is very successful in her job – loved by so many. But she is overweight and she just listens to that voice that says she is a failure because she is “fat.” I try to encourage to hear what others say, see the awards she has won but she seems helpless to hear anything but her voice saying “you are fat.” I don’t what to do to help her.

That’s a sad story. I hope your friend can overcome this issue.

Self doubt is an ugly little demon. There are so many times he’s whispering in my ear that I’m not “enough” – whatever that means. I listen, and try to find the root of his voice. Is it one thing I’ve blown out of context or fear? It is something that was unkindly presented to me? Is it really my voice? It’s slow going, but he is getting smaller.

so true. For most of us, we are our own greatest enemies. Most of the time i have self doubt, and I feel like I can’t do something, even if I am qualified for it
