Happy Birthday To Me And Sorry

It was my birthday earlier this week which I normally celebrate with a blog post reminding everyone how old and decrepit I am. Lots of you take pity on me by replying to wish me many happy returns for which I’m always grateful. It’s a great way to engage with other bloggers, both old and new. Unfortunately that wasn’t the to be the case this year, which is the reason for this delayed birthday-related post.

The account was visited/attacked by another blogger earlier this week who basically liked every blog I’ve ever posted in whirlwind fashion. There was no effort made to engage with me and the speed of the action convinced me that none of my posts were actually read. I’m none the wiser as to why this happened but, since then, I’ve been having all sorts of problems with my WordPress app.

The worst of these is that I can’t currently see any notifications I’m receiving. Which means if you comment on a post I’ve no means of reading your remarks and replying. Something I pride myself on doing to 99% of the comments I receive on the blog. If someone takes the time to read and comment on a post then the least I can do is reply. It’s common courtesy; time consuming but something I’ve always done.

So Happy Birthday to me. But, in the same breath, I’m sorry I haven’t replied to those of you who have shared the sentiment. I hope you appreciate it’s for reasons currently beyond my control. I aim to get the technical issue sorted soon so please bear with me. For me, the blogging experience is all about engaging with others and building online communities together. Hopefully normal service will be resumed again in the near future.

We are Stephen and Fionnuala and this is our story. We live in Northern Ireland, have been married for 17 years and have three kids - Adam, Hannah and Rebecca. We hope that our story will inspire and encourage others. We have walked a rocky road yet here we are today, together and stronger than ever. We are far from perfect and our faith has been battered and bruised. But an untested faith is a pointless faith. Just as a fractured faith is better than none at all. We hope you enjoy the blog.

  1. Happy birthday, and I’m sorry to hear your blog is going through some difficulties.

I see you’re already hosting with WordPress.com and I’m certain they can help with the difficulties you’re currently going through. They are very helpful, and have helped me with some issues I’ve had in the past.

I hope things get better for you, and I wish you all the best.

  2. I get those from time to time. Open my email notifications and see that long stream of likes, as was mentioned, those mean nothing. A comment shows there is at least some interaction. Happy Birthday and I do hope you get everything straightened out quickly.

  3. Belated birthday wishes to you, Stephen! Sorry technical issues (or just a jerk) had to smatter rain on your week of celebrating. I too receive so much from the comments I receive on my blog – I enjoy the connection and yes, I will admit, the affirmation that my thoughts in words were worth reading to SOMEONE!! I always enjoy spending my morning coffee break with you because I have come to value your insight and appreciate your authenticity. I hope this next adventure around the sun for you is filled with personal fulfillment and a lot more light!!

  4. Happy birthday for the other day. How rude of someone to do that to your blog. I am new to blogging and tried a few Facebook pages out relating to blogs and all they do is a visit for visit and that is so upsetting in my opinion. I put a question on there asking for advice and my post got ransacked by people just adding links to their blog, horrible experience. I hope you have a nice day and I really enjoy giving reading other blogs, commenting and connecting to people on wordpress. Hopefully you don’t experience any other hackers

      1. You’re welcome! I’m doing good today. Life is busy always isn’t it? I lost a dear uncle and his funeral is this week. It was my Mom’s oldest brother and the first death among the siblings (they’ve been blessed). But we all celebrate his life and have faith. It makes it more peaceful. I’ve been cleaning up flood debris at my neighbor’s house. They went to church and I snuck over there. He’s 82 and not in great health so it feels good to help! So yes, a wonderful day! I hope for you too!!

  6. Sounds like a stressful experience. I hope it has been fixed by now since I am seeing this late. Also, I hope it is not too weird to wish you a belated happy birthday. Maybe, I can make it just a wish for a happy day in general. 🙂
